Is there a way to play with a joystick?

hi buddies.

i have tried to play with my own joystick. and using xppader (program to use keyboard and mouse through your gamepad )to play pokemon. but it seems that the game just ignore the emulated buttons. and the mouse movement

anyone who knows how to solve this?? i justwant to play on my tv screen!
