WAKEY WAKEY EGGS AND BAKEY! I kid. I am fine with this since I am just using the retro texture pack NPC part that Snoe made. (My game is currently a mixture of several texture/skin/sound packs.)

Yeah I see it as a youngster when i view it via the friend hub
so it is just an update check that is not happening somewhere
it shouldn't be hard to fix

Looks like the anti-cheat is a huge flop. I'm seeing tons of impossibly obtained Pokemon in GTS. Multiple level 50 charizards :\

A lot of people are actually doing this so they don't have to deal with the bugs we are dealing with right now.

Does anyone know what daily events are? I hear people talk about the, but I don't actually know what it is.

It is a daily comeptition that I run where you can win a pokemon with perfect IVs and female gender
and sometimes shiny(release days usually)
There is a thread for it down in the trading section of the forums

When the game hangs at the connection screen is it still trying to connect? Would it be better to let it keep trying, or refresh it every now and then?
