Just think about it. I mean whenever you encounter a wild ugly magmar, it makes me want to wince. Also, some pokemon like tangela. Whenever i encounter these pokemon i literally scream KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!
But my point is that some sprites don't even look finished, and they just look stiff and dead. I miss the good old days where we had sprites and battles WITH ACTUAL MOVE ANIMATIONS like this

But after that, we had crappy looking battles without animations like this:

And Now, we have 'em like this:

2015-03-22_10.06.15.png

Which is stupid.
we have officially ruined the battles. if we go back to animations with the current format, it'll look AWESOME. I know what you're thinking "BUT WHAT ABOUT DEM X AND Y SPRITES? well i know a website who does sprites like those. (link here: http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/xy-sprite-project-read-1st-post-pixel-perfect.3486712/ ) We can use those sprites for now, or animate them later, because we don't even have gen 6 pokemon yet (or do we?)

To focus on the animations, they were cool at the time, but not all of them were finished, and if we were to put them in the game, they would have to be worked on. AND I KNOW THAT THE BATTLE SYSTEM ISN'T FINISHED YET. If you guys are still going to do 3D sprites, i do not think it is a good idea. i'll leave it to everyone else to vote, and to leave comments about it on this thread.

Okay, first BS V1 wouldn't had been supported 50+% of moves, so we end up with BS V2 where all moves will function in future. In process we lost that couple of battle animations we had, but that is for time being.
With BS V2 we had plan to have 3D models, but a lot players end up picking up on our main 3D modeler and he quit, that's why models was removed and changed to follow sprites which ones have Pokemon from 4 sides. We have couple amateur modelers, but one is busy with couple ContentPacks and couple GameModes and other still does 3D models from XYORAS whenever he has time as ContentPack. But models atm will not have animations and only stand still, because nilllzz and Darkfire can't find way for that.
For battle animations as I told before it's just for time being. But we already have BA for move Substitute, so wait for more.
For 6th Gen Pokemon we already have some spriters to do that or even they maybe already finished them, so no need worry for that. + we have already couple 6th Gen Pokemon catchable in game.

All right. I can understand why models with 2 sides would be hard, but we could change some camera angles to make 2d sprites stand still and not look weird. We can do this until they're done with all of the sprites. I can understand if they don't want to do this because they are with the overworld sprites. Thanks for clearing things up.

Fat chance that would be possible, because 2 sided sprites is not suited for BS V2.
BTW before you answered to my post I edited it and added more information in, so read it.:p

I think one of the reasons was file size usage.

In the current battle system, the sprites in-battle are shared with the overworld sprites, essentially dividing the amount of sprites needed by half.

Another thing is that the current sprites only have two frames of animation, as opposed to several for the Generation V sprites, further conserving file space.

Edit: Also, the current battle system makes battles go much faster than in the old system.

tornado's right. if we have even more limited space, the game can't function at its regular speed, allowing more crashes and lagging.

This is what I think, I think nilllzz didn't like the battle system of the main series (or some other reason) and wanted to change it to XD/Colosseum Battle style, and it's a no brainer for anyone to realize that the B/W sprites don't work with the new battle system and only 3D models and OW sprites work.

I'm not well educated on the subject, but I don't think the availability of the moves is related to the way the battle system works now (when we say old and new BS, we merely talk about the way the camera works in both systems)

Honestly, I like what we have now. Oh sure, they're not big, detailed, and animated, but they're simple. Plus the fact people who want to make content packs to change the pokemon sprites will have an easier time doing it since its only a 2-sprite movement. Like everyone said, if the programmers were to try adding more animated sprites, it would cause lag.

its all fine and dandy, but you need to take into consideration of the limitations. yes we all want the old battle sprites back. but as of now, its hard to create it. even for me, im ony struggling with alot of sprites and they are all NPC, hence my signature...

as of right now, the game is at a pass in my book. because the overworld sprites is fine and would much rather have it stayed.

so instead of complaining on how things are, go make a gamemode.

Problem is the battle system was left in the dark, it sucks, i hate those sprites too, thats why i created my own mode which replaces them with some decent pokemon 3d models which i stopped for now because of lack of interest on this game, dev's focus on new maps, instead of the battle system which is incomplete since the begining of the development, and for me battles are like the core of the game, and they boring.

This is Pokémon 3D and no one wants 3D...:/
3D Models look crap in this basic background
