The Trainer Card takes your current sprite; regardless if you're walking/Surfing, or riding.
So this is not a bug (unless @nillzz thinks that needs change).

I never noticed that, and I changed it. It doesn't make sense that you show up as your Pokémon on your trainer card.

It may not make sense but it's pretty awesome to see a poliwag going around catching other pokemon.
