Epic Pointage. Is it legit?

So with the new update I've noticed the online ranking system. Which gauges the top players with the most points among all the gamejolt accounts. Upon first glance when the update hit I noticed that the top ten leader board had people with points as low as 3000 points in the top ten.

So I've kept my eye on the board for a while, checking it once every hour or so. I thought it was my imagination, but a random player suddenly jump up on the board with a 1000 point lead over some other players on the top ten. Jumping up 1000 points in a matter of moments. I dismissed this as a closed incident.

But then I noticed several players who jumped up 2000+ points minimum and even one case of someone gaining 3000+ points. All these points had to be earned in less than 30 minutes because I had checked the board less than an hour ago. Under such a short time frame I don't think this is possible considering the fact that the game usually automatically saves your gamejolt file periodically or whenever you use a pokemon center.

So are these points legit and the point system is just being severally abused by some fatal flaw (ex: these players might just be trading with each other back or forth)? Or are points being cheated for up the wazoo by a multiple players at once?

i think that everyone who has not come online since update have not got there score on the list. only until they come online will their score be published

That sounds about right, there should be waaay more people above 5000 pts. My score don't even register atm, must be some kind of delay.

yeah i had a look on the gamejolt site while update was downloading. i was no on there but now i am. just give it time

Thanks for the answers guys. It makes a lot of sense when I think of it now. The possibility didn't really occur to me that older version scores would need to update. And I'm quite happy that the community is more active than I originally thought.
