Firstly, please don't mind me if there is already a thread like this one.

My suggestion is called "Open Worlds"

Open Worlds would consider a lobby/list of IP's, World names or area's for people to join. In these worlds you could be able to;

Trading Worlds - World with several area's to trade your pokemon, potions, pokeballs and what so ever.

Fighting Worlds - Be able to challange your friends, enemy's or randoms to show that you have the best team set-up. Your pokemon levels would be somehow shows when either clicking on your name/character or in a list of trainers.

Adventure - Battle with your friends, side by side, against the most powerful pokemon. Ability to battle against a level 200 Mew?

Thanks for reading,
hope you liked it.

sounds like runescape servers lol :p

this requires the Dev team to buy or rent servers for the game to work.

Sounds a lot like runescape indeed, but seemingly they did a great job in developing such a thing. Countless games have these kind of advantages though, so I don't see the problem.

Could cost some money indeed, but it could be player hosted, instead of server hosted. Than the server wouldn't have to pay for extra RAM, only problem then is that your progress won't be saved unless you transfer your logs into the actual offline mode.
