A puzzle guide for catching Farfetch'd. :chicken:

The first major puzzle new players seem to struggle with in the P3D storyline is without a doubt the chase for the runaway Farfetch'd. After kicking team Rocket out of Azalea city and defeating your arch nemesis "???", the player meets a peculiar trainer in Ilex forest who appears to have lost its master's pokémon. Your task at hand is to chase down and retrieve this missing Farfetch'd. However, this bird is not gonna make it easy...

This guide will give you a step-by-step description on which paths to follow to guide that little twitter back to its owner.

Getting to know the playing field
Ilex forest can be quite a tricky place to traverse. Running around chasing that bird without any knowledge of the map will get you nowhere but lost. The following image displays a map of Ilex forest with the most important characters for this puzzle marked.
  • The area within the red box is the most important part of this map. this is where you will be following Farfetch'd.
  • You will enter Ilex forest from the southern gatehouse. By heading up (north) the event triggers once the trainer spots you.
  • The trainer and Farfetch'd are characterized by their original sprites.
  • Your character's pathway will be marked in RED.
  • Farfetch'd pathway will be marked in YELLOW.

PRO TIP: Bring at least 3 repels to ensure that no further pokémon's will disrupt your search.

Encountering Farfetch'd.
After interacting with the lost trainer your task is to find Farfetch'd. This is easily done by heading south and traversing further into the forest.
After spotting you the bird will take off running east. Just follow the corner until you see him and interact to start the game. Farfetch'd will head eastwards and travel to the center of the arena.

Step 2.png

At this point you do NOT want to follow Farfetch'd. Instead, head upwards (north), and circle around the upper patch of trees to meet him in the middle. From here you want to interact with it from the SOUTH, as shown in the next picture. Interacting with it from any other direction causes it to run haywire. If this does happen just keep following it until it reaches the middle again.

Once interacted with, Farfetch'd will run around you and head eastwards. Just follow it up to the split and head north. You can then continue tapping that bird to cause it to go upwards even further, ending up at the entrance of the ledged area at the uppermost part of the arena.

Now comes one of the harder steps of the puzzle and one that new players often get confused by. Instead of continuing your path upwards, go back down and loop around the upper patch of trees to end up on the left side of Farfetch'd. Interaction from the left causes it to head upwards and jump off the ledge to the left side.
Continue by placing yourself left from Farfetch'd and interact. If done correctly it will head west and end up close to the starting area.

Step 7.png

To wrap up this puzzle it is important that you DO NOT follow Farfetch'd at this point. Instead, loop around again, place yourself left from Farfetch'd and interact with it. Any other interaction will result in that duck heading off to the middle of the arena and all that hard work will be lost. Check the following image for the exact position:

Step 8.png

Got everything? Perfect! you're almost done. Farfetch'd will retreat back to its starting position. At this point all you have to do is follow it, poke it a few more times to get its ass moving and it will be back with its trainer in no-time!
As a reward you will be granted this flashy new Hm Cut, which allows you to gain access to the next area of Ilex.

I hope this guide was clear enough. If there are any further questions or you somehow still managed to get stuck I will be glad to answer all questions through the P3D discord.

Happy hunting!
