how do i use auto save

You use autosave on "Continue"

When you press ESC, start a combat with wild pokémon, etc. The game saves your data in a special slot. You can't choose to load the autosave by clicking on "Load Game", but only by selecting the "Continue" button, just like Alessa said. This is just an explanation!
