You can use the official server to play with friends, currently this is the only way to do so.

you can progress fine if you switch the affected pokemon, sadly, we can't reproduce the bug which means we can't fix it.

this is a known bug in 0.55.2, hopefully to be soon fixed.

you need to have a gamejolt-enabled account to join the official server.

by the time someone does that sprite, you'd have moved on from that name to a new one.

It might've been down at some point but it's running fine now. btw, on the discord server, there's a channel called, #bot_playground, type ?serverisdown in that channel so we get notified and fix it ASAP.
