So Ive been playing in the 2013 International Challenge over this weekend and I managed to get 2 wins in all that time. You might think that Im a terrible trainer ,but the name of the threat says it all : There is people rage quitting all over the place! E.g. : I only have my porygon z left and I manage to Tri attack my way to victory against a guy with like 1600 points (which is ca 10 wins) and then my screen turns blue to inform me that my opponnent lost connection... Stuff like this also happens in the FREE battle mode in regular online

I dont get why someone would rage quit with nothing on the line , I mean I didnt battle him for his home or family honour.
Okay ,the point of making this thread is to ask if you encounter rage quitting alot and what you think about it. That is all.

Note that many people playing pokemon are under 15 years old, and for my experience, they tend to rage over pretty much nothing. Just take a look at the FPS games.

In Pokémon Online Tournaments, every agegroup has its own "Tournament". We are in the Masterclass group wich means that every1 there should be >16.

Ragequitting sucks ass, i almost scored a top 20 place in the Winter Friendly 2013 but due to ragequitting (of others) and connection problems i got disqualified. Sucks ass tbh. I hate ragequitters of every kind and they should get banned from online competition.

the problem sounds both systemic and cultural. in other games leaving a match can be seen as simply bowing out and giving the better player the win, an admission of defeat. if the stats system doesn't accomodate this conceding a match only leads to spiteful point denial. frankly, sounds like nintys fault to me, you literally can't stop people leaving matches they are no longer winning.

hopefully gen 6 MP takes it into account properly. even a centralized stats driven ladder game like starcraft 2 can have well mannered GGing out, i dont see why pokemon can't. in fact, the blizzard version of pokemon in wow allows it and leaving gives the other player a win and people use it to escape games they can't win and when someone does it it feels just as much a win as if you beat the life out of their last pet.

Some people actually give up the match when they think they cant win anymore ,which is something I respect. I think they will be able to take out the dissconnects in Gen 6 ,because its made for 3DS so turning off the wifi switch might not work ingame.

I feel like when someone RageQuits, It should at least count for a win for the person who stayed. I can understand that theres the occasion that someone might acctually loose a connection, it should still count for a win. Not 100% sure it should count as a loss, if you get disconnected, but at least have some detection feature to tell the difference between ragequitting and a loss connection.

question for ppl concerned about rage quits, nils and i have briefly talked about ratings systems like elo but haven't really settled on any. what do people want to see? i know elo isnt perfect and can cause ratings sitting but people don't tend to rage quit wow arena games except to concede because it is a loss and incurs ratings loss. it can be helpful for matchmaking too. what are some people's experiences with other game's rating systems? the only games i bothered to do 'rated' matches for were ET:quake wars which had no matchmaking at all, and WoW arena

There is a disconnect ratio in some capcom games ,which basically shows how many times you disconnected. So if a player has high disconnect you can chose not to play with them and thats quite neat.

In my mind, rage quitting is when someone gets frustrated and quits, as the name implies. When someone loses connection or something, I don't count that as rage quit, you will rage at your connection, but you raged after losing it, not before.

BTW, this is my 500th message. XD

the thing is, if you make leaving a game only count if they leave the match ingame they get around it by closing the program or disconnecting from the net. you cant tell if a lost connection was intentional or not so they just get considered as a rage quit

This happens to me soo many times...
Even at international tournaments I attend, when I win people shut off their DS/3DS, and say that I hacked and made it go off...

I won that tournament :D

How did you get points if everyone turned of their game o_O
or was it an actual live tournament?
