Flying and Mounting Around

I love the idea of mounting around and i think it can go further, why not put special skills for each pokemon when you reach a high level like 90 or so. For an exemple Ninetails could burn down "cut" trees without the HM, or Entei could jump up that small leadges, or Raikou could sprint faster for a short time.

At the moment this idea would be hard. Because the towns/caves/houses are in separate files, and between those files/maps there are teleport points.

So if Nilllzz is going to implement this you will need some kind of world map where if you touchdown in a town that map will load.

While I'm all for pokemon following their trainers around, I'm not sure about mount riding. It could turn out overpowering if it affects encounter rates and you use it to get to a new area. I wouldn't mind a sort of node system for fly that puts you on a mount and flies you to the nearest node an then takes you to your chosen destination where you've already been. If you could see people fly past you in multiplayer, even better.

I'd support the idea for having special areas for fly, dig, etc. but not for regular play. Just my opinion.

And I think for the out-of-battle Fly there should be a 3D world map for you to move to your destination town and land. Looking down might not help you know where you are, so maybe a mini-map would help. Or the name appears when you are over the town.

Same for Dig when in caves, with a way to go to an exit of the dungeon and tunnels and good stuff.

Definitely would be great as a mini-game for multiplayer. But again I don't recommend for now. Maybe when Fly is going to be added we'll talk.

Just a few thoughts of my own, with flying mounts, rather than flying a square above (I can see people already reaching Blackthorne pretty early with that idea), perhaps just make a sort of "mini-game" where you actually fly and control your Pokemon from point A to point B, avoiding collisions with other flying Pokemon, and even adding in a means of firing at certain Pokemon to initiate a mid-air battle. So you would still kind of get the ability to fly without absolutely breaking the game.
I would actually most likely fly my Ho-oh, but Charizard would be pretty cool too ^.^

I love that idea. The only issue with flight in the game, in its current state, is the lack of external cell loading. You'd still only be able to see the cell you're currently flying over.

Free flying should be something earned by passing a certain point in the game. Example would be a certain level cap. If you reach the level before you have the badge your Pokemon wont fly and will ignore you.

Another idea is a wind current will push you away or the game can check whether you have explored the town or not. If you haven't it will simply say the wind is too strong it isn't safe to land. Encounters should be in clouded sections. You fly through some clouds to find certain flying Pokemon at certain levels.

I see people think that free flying would be the only way of flying. There should be a fast travel option for players who do not want to explore the sky and want classic flying.

As for mounts for walking around. It should be something the player finds along his travels. It would be a house where some guy is riding a Pokemon and he teaches you how to use your Pokemon as a mount. Then you can ride certain Pokemon around. Giving you a speed boost depending on what Pokemon you using.

Someone would have to make the mount sprites though.

There should naturally be some kind of trade-off. No reason (while we're dreaming) not to expect encounters with flying Pokemon while in the air. The speed shouldn't be any faster than running (at best) and large obstacles should still act as obstacles unless you find the specific slipstreams (which would access special areas, not bypass obstacles).
thats not a bad idea, it still overlaps with repels though. lets imagine whole flying things gets rejected, there's no reason why the slipstream idea couldnt just be something you find and if you have fly you get to take it to somewhere. i think it'd be pretty cool, like I said on the other forum you could do the same thing with dig, have holes you notice and if you have dig you can take that to somewhere. lots of possibilities
If it overlaps with repels that can be annoying. But i dont use repels in Pokemon3D because after you get to level 10 the battles only take 10 seconds because you ohko the wild animals and you outspeed

if you're not even bothering to use the current system for avoiding battles i dont know why the game would need a second one

One way to stop people skipping areas would be to just railroad them to the plot in a different way.

"The pokemon on this route look too strong right now" if you've never been to that city through the conventional way.
or "I should explore this area on foot/on a POKEMON that knows SURF first" We're all pretty used to that sort of railroading anyway.

it doesnt matter how you gate it, it breaks the map from the moment you pass that gate

Isn`t it possible to block those teleport block until the player complete some task?? Maybe something using that history file. It would be the same as the girl that don`t let you leave the first town before getting a pokemon
