I haven't played in a long time, so I updated to the latest version, but there is no sound, no music, its dead silence, I've checked my settings, its not muted and the volume is at the max, I've tried disabling my music pack, and its still dead silence, I even exited out the game and reopened it....

Can you check the version of Windows Media Player on your computer? That is likely the source of the problem.

I don't use windows media player, I use winamp.

That might be your problem. You may need it installed to hear audio.

If you are using WindowsXP, you may still not be able to run music nor sound. This is cuz the computer type(XP,Windows 7) is outdated. I have the same thing and there is no cure to it whatsoever.

My friend was playing it fine on his windows XP, And most of the players who play it are on win7, your argument is invalid.

This is cuz u don't use Windows XP. XP is dead cuz of old age.

The game relies in Windows Media player for the audio to work, in the past people without it would get crashes but Nils made it simply stop playing the audio instead of the crashes.
I don't know if there is an alternative way.

As for the Win XP thing, right now this isn't an issue right now since the framework and stuff is still up to date but it could be an issue in the future.

If the audio is not working because of the Windows Media Player, then it should say so in the log.
If you still think that everything should be fine and the game is doing something wrong detecting the Windows Media Player version, then there will be an option in the next version of the game to force the music to play without the Windows media player check. This could cause the game to crash when attempting to play music though.

If Microsoft would've never killed Windows XP. The music would run perfectly. But now, there is no solution to it.

That doesn't have anything to do with Windows XP directly... It's about the Windows media player, which could be outdated. But when the latest service pack is installed, Windows XP has the required version of the Windows media player.

I knew it was Service Pack 3. I have the second. Thats probably why it didn't work. Solution found.
